`IDENTITY CRISIS: THE MODERN VENUS TOURING EXHIBITION´

From 2nd August to 28th October
At People Know How, 1st Floor, Ocean Terminal, Ocean Drive, Edinburgh, EH6 6JJ

The artistic works, narrative and design of the Modern Venus exhibition have been an organic process of exploration and collaboration between creative communities of women in Edinburgh. The artworks were formed over the course of a year, during creative sessions with The University of St Andrews, and the women’s groups of Craigmillar Community Arts, Waverley Care and Willow. Together, our creative community questioned different forms of Venus and idealised images of women, exploring lasting impacts on body image, medical treatment and modern society.
Throughout the exhibition, we subvert traditional forms of medical art and images of women, and we pay homage to females whose art and stories provide inspiration and new insight into the history of medicine. As you move around the exhibition, learning more about the project, we ask you to place yourself physically and emotionally in the setting, and to consider how gendered imagery affects your life.

The Exhibition Identity Crisis: The Modern Venus is by the collective ‘Project Venus’.
